カタカナは、用途がたくさんあるです。
After doing the Katakana project,
I realised the reason why the Katakana is created.
I think that Katakana is completing the Japanese Writing System,
with its own function on emphasizing, imported foreign language, pronunciation and so on.
Katakana do have its own function and can be work together with Hiragana and Kanji as an independent writing system.

1. 外国語 Foreign Language
カタカナは英語から作られた.
例えば:アメリカ - (America)
コンピューター - (Computer)
ビジネス - (Business)
2. To Represent the Foreign Language
-Foreign language mostly refers to the Western vocabulary.
Such as in the Chinese language we have 「披薩(PIZZA)」,「T恤(Tshirt)」
that is belongs to the foreign language.
-Japanese 「テレビ(Television)」「ラジオ(Radio)」、
「コンビに(Convenience Store)」 originated from the English,
「パン(Bread)」,originated from the Portuguese.
-So most of the words that is originated and belong to the foreign language can be present
by using Katakana.
-Know the origin of the words is from the foreign country, instead of the original culture.
3. Pronunciation and Words
- In
addition, foreign names, places, and foreign language can also expressed in
Katakana.
-Katakana provides
the pronounciation and
can be use as a word.4. 製品と会社の名前
-「マクドナルド(McDonald)」「ダイソウ(Daiso)」
- Recently, there more inclined to use Katakana to represent
the name of the company or brand.
- There are an increasing number of Japanese companies or commodities,
who follow the trend.
- Such as 「フジテレビ(Fuji TV)」
- Its function is just simply to emphasize and
make the company image look different and class.
5. Scientific name 動物と植物の名前
- Originally, the names of the animal and plant is in Chinese characters (Kanji).
- For the Japanese, Chinese characters in reading comprehension is more difficult.
- So in order to let the fresh learner such as children to understand fully.
- The textbooks, newspapers and magazines and more to Katakana.
- However, in fiction or formal literary works, Chinese characters (Kanji) is use commonly.
6. Onomatopoetic
- There
are different types of Japanese onomatopoeia.
- Onomatopoeia
is divided
to 3 categories:
(a)ぎせいご(擬声語)
is
the type of onomatopoeia that emphasis
the
mimics
actual sounds.
(Sounds
that people and animals make. )
(b)ぎおんご(擬音語) is the sound
effects
like the wind blowing, an explosion, or rainfall
or the
action words that comic books artists make up. ぎおんご are least
likely to find in a dictionary.
(c)ぎたいご擬態語 is
the words that
describe actions and emotions that don’t necessarily make
noises.They’ll
describe
more abstract things like a facial expression or a feeling.
